Art Work

Artist Statement

Carrie Henzie is portrait photographer. Themes of identity, transition and gender politics inspire her work. She stretches the definition of portraiture to include place, and occasionally develops work using the landscape as her model.

Primarily using digital technology, Carrie alternates between colour and black and white images, striving to use light and texture to infuse her photographs with a consistent mood and sensibility. Carrie often works in a documentary style, but her images do not necessarily record a specific reality.

Carrie received her BFA in photography from Concordia University in 2012. Her work has been exhibited nationally and internationally. She has most recently been awarded an honourable mention from the International Photography Awards (IPA) in the Fine Art: Portrait category. Currently residing in rural Ontario, Carrie continues to use her lens as a tool to observe and capture the people around her.
